On Friday, April 26, 2024, within the framework of the Smart Nicosia Project, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Green Dot and the Municipality of Nicosia. The MoU was signed by Mr. Vasilis Petrides, President of the Board of Directors of Green Dot Cyprus and Mrs. Myria Pilakouta, Municipal Secretary of the Municipality.
The MoU concerns the creation of a smart network of glass recycling bins within and outside the walls of the city of Nicosia. The project represents an innovative solution by Smart Nicosia, based on advanced technology. Specifically, for the first time in Cyprus, smart sensors have been installed in bins to monitor the fill level in real-time. This system optimizes the process of collecting recyclable glass packaging while simultaneously providing information and assistance to citizens.
Through the “Smart Waste App”, citizens can locate the nearest glass recycling bin, as well as access information about the fill level. Additionally, the application allows users to report issues if a bin is damaged or missing. The application is already available on Android or iOS platforms.
Residents and visitors of Nicosia can download the application immediately using the provided QR Codes.

The Smart Nicosia project is implemented within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALEIA 2021-2027”, co-funded by the EU.
