Sorting at the source \/ Citizen Participation<\/h2><\/div>

A. Citizens separate PMD, paper and glass packaging materials from the rest in the household. Packaging must be free of debris.<\/p>\n

B. Then they place the PMD and paper packaging materials in the special transparent and brown recycling bags respectively. On the collection day, they place the special bags on the sidewalk of their house or transfer them to the blue and brown bins respectively.<\/p>\n

C. Glass packaging is NOT collected from houses. Citizens temporarily store the glass packages and transfer them to the special green bell-type bins.

A. The Green Dot collection crews pass from houses weekly. They collect brown and transparent recycling bags and empty the blue and brown bins.<\/p>\n

B. A separate Green Dot crew empties the green bins with the glass packages which are transported to Vasilikos Cement Factory for recycling. Glass is the only material that is recycled in Cyprus where after processing it is used as a building material.<\/p>\n<\/div>

After collection, the PMD and Paper packaging materials are taken to special sorting units where they are sorted into individual categories.<\/p>\n<\/div>

After the materials are separated, they are promoted for sale to recyclers in Cyprus and abroad.<\/div>
